Paul George Gets Brutally Honest About Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony’s retirement from the NBA last month shook the league to its core.

Although the former Syracuse standout obviously had shifted into more of a role player capacity during his stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers, most still remember him as one of the most prolific scorers in hoops history.

This week, another one of the NBA’s most skilled forwards weighed in on Anthony calling it quits.

Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George offered his brutally honest thoughts on Anthony in a recent interview.

“The initial thoughts… one of our greatest basketball players is hanging it up,” George told Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints. “Just being a friend, a little brother, a teammate, I just hope he did it on his terms and he’s happy with this decision.”

George didn’t stop there, though.

“Somebody as great as him, you would hope that he has a chance to ride out when he’s ready to,” he added.

“For a guy that’s built a legacy and has been a legend in our game for so long, it comes to a point that he’s chasing something. And he’s chasing the best version of himself. As long as he’s happy with the decision and he’s comfortable with the decision I’m happy for him.

“But we are losing one of the best to ever play this game. I hope the next part of his life is even more successful than this part of his life.”

Anthony obviously had some unfortunate off-the-court issues follow him around toward the end of his career, but none of them took away from his legacy.

The man was an all-time great – and that is why his peers regard him as such.

George may have been the latest player to speak out about how much Anthony means to him, but he won’t be the last. Anthony’s remarkable NBA legacy is etched in stone at this point.
