NBA legend Carmelo Anthony and his ex-wife, La La Anthony, got married in 2010. At the time, he was still a member of the Denver Nuggets – the team that drafted him.
One year later the Nuggets sent Carmelo to the New York Knicks in a blockbuster trade that sent reverberations throughout the league.
Unfortunately, the move would also have some very negative implications for Carmelo and La La’s marriage. They would go on to split for good in 2021.
This week, during an appearance on Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper, La La got brutally honest about the real reason for her split from Anthony.
“I’m from New York so being here is nothing new,” she said.
“When we lived here under all of that, that’s when things became complicated. Now that I look back, that was kind of the start of the demise of the marriage.”
Specifically, Carmelo getting dealt to the Knicks put the pair under a magnifying glass that they simply couldn’t shake.
“It is really hard,” La La added.
“That’s not the only reason things didn’t work out, but things got tough with New York, just constantly being under the spotlight and people watching every little thing.”
That said, La La still maintains a positive perspective on things.
“We had some great times,” she continued.
“We have a beautiful son, Kiyan, who’s amazing. It wasn’t all bad. We had great, great times. It ended bad, but we’re still friends and we co-parent great…
“Life is just about lessons and going through different phases, and that was a phase in my life, a chapter in my life. And now, that chapter’s over but it’s never really over when you have a kid with somebody.
This isn’t the first time La La has spoken out about the grisly details of her marriage to Carmelo.
Between the disturbing texts that have leaked out and Carmelo’s subsequent woman drama – it’s not that difficult to piece together why him and La La couldn’t make it work.

That said, it’s always sad to see a marriage disintegrate. Particularly when there are children involved.
At the moment, it seems like Carmelo and La La have resolved to stay on good terms for the sake of their son.
Hopefully that continues to be the case going forward.
