The Golden State Warriors are one of several teams looking to make a major roster shakeup ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.
As things presently stand, Stephen Curry and Co. are 20-24 after 44 games and sit 12th in the Western Conference.
Fortunately, last year, the Los Angeles Lakers proved that you are just one big trade away from going from the bottom of a conference to the conference finals.
In order for the Warriors to do something like that, though – they need to do something ahead of the deadline. In recent days the front office has been linked to trades with the Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards, as well as a pretty massive blockbuster one that could change the entire landscape of the West.
This week, Golden State was linked to a three-team trade that would bring Jerami Grant to The Bay.
“If they are aiming to upgrade the roster, this deal could work,” Bleacher Report noted.
“Grant is essentially the version of Wiggins that Golden State always hopes will show up but seldom sees anymore. Grant could be the second scoring option behind Curry and a valuable piece of its switch-heavy defense.”
The big issue for for the Warriors is that they labeled one instrumental role player basically off limits in any conversations. That only leaves Andrew Wiggins as the player they are willing to trade, as evidenced by his girlfriend’s not-so-subtle tweets.
The problem, of course, is that Portland doesn’t have much use for Andrew Wiggins. Fortunately, there is a team that has expressed interest in Wiggins – the Dallas Mavericks.
“I heard Dallas has always liked him, and they’re looking to upgrade at the three,” Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported last week.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic agreed that there is interest in Wiggins on Dallas’ side.
“They got him back that summer on a four-year extension,” he said. “This is year one of the extension. You know, I think it’s somewhere around $24 million this year. That was viewed at the time as a bargain deal and team friendly.

“The way the last two seasons have gone, and particularly this season where he’s having the worst offensive year of his career, all the lineup numbers and on-court data have been terrible for him and have tanked his value. It would be kind of a sell low time for the Warriors. As far as teams, you mentioned those Dallas rumblings have been out there.”
This trade could be a win-win-win for all sides. It would ensure the Warriors get a reliable second option behind Curry, it would give Portland trade and draft capital to aid their rebuild, and it would give the Mavs a player they covet.
Will this deal ultimately get done? One way or another an answer will emerge ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.
