Lakers Reuniting With 2 Former Players Ahead Of NBA Trade Deadline?

The Los Angeles Lakers are 22-23 after 45 games and seem dead set on making a big move ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.

In recent days L.A. has been linked to a blockbuster trade for a superstar, a surprising trade offer to the Golden State Warriors (which they ultimately rejected) and a potential Austin Reaves swap.

But those aren’t the only moves that LeBron James and Co. are being connected to.

This week a report surfaced that L.A. was considering reunions with not one, but two former players.

“The Lakers have also considered dealing for players who could address specific needs in a potential playoff matchup, such as Andre Drummond of the [Chicago] Bulls, in anticipation of a postseason rematch with the Denver Nuggets and their big front line of Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon,” Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported.

Drummond isn’t the only ex-Laker that the front office is eyeing, though.

“The Toronto Raptors have two players on their roster the Lakers have interest in as well, sources said: Dennis Schroder and Bruce Brown,” McMenamin continued.

“Schroder was L.A.’s backup point guard last season before signing with Toronto for the full midlevel exception in the summer. With the Raptors already completing a trade with the New York Knicks to acquire two ball-dominant players in RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, Schroder could become expendable.”

Drummond’s brutally honest take on playing for the Lakers in the past once ruffled some feathers, but clearly not so much so that he wouldn’t be welcomed back under the right circumstances.

Schroder was a key part of Los Angeles’ march to the Western Conference Finals last year, so he would make a sensible add-on as well.

The problem with both, however, is that neither man is an impactful enough player to truly change the course of the Lakers’ season.

And at the moment, that is probably what Jeanie Buss and Co. should be focused on.

What move, if any, will the Lakers make ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline? Time will tell.
