Lakers, Mavericks Linked To 4-Team NBA Trade

Lakers, Mavericks Linked To 4-Team NBA Trade

The Los Angeles Lakers are speeding towards the NBA Trade Deadline with the understanding that a big move needs to be made.

As presently constructed, this team is not a legitimate championship contender.

In recent days L.A. has been connected to a blockbuster trade for a big man, a potential swap with the Chicago Bulls, and a possible deal with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Clearly there is momentum for something to happen. The question now is just what that something will be.

This week the Lakers were linked to a 4-team NBA trade between them, the Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks that could prove to be a win-win-win-win for all parties involved.

In the proposed swap, Atlanta would walk away with Austin Reaves, Jalen Hood-Schifino, and the Dallas Mavericks’ 2025 first-round pick.

L.A., meanwhile, would receive Dejounte Murray, Tim Hardaway Jr., Jaden Hardy, and the Toronto Raptors’ 2025 second-rounder.

Toronto would get D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Richaun Holmes, Olivier-Maxence Prosper and a 2027 first-rounder from the Mavericks.

Finally, Dallas would come away with Pascal Siakam.

This multi-faceted trade works on multiple levels.

Obviously, the Mavericks would give up a ton of draft capital, but it is also the only feasible way they get Siakam. Currently, another squad is the frontrunner for his services.

The Lakers have repeatedly said that they don’t want to give up Reaves, but Atlanta has also expressly made it clear that the only way Murray gets dealt is for something of substantive value. L.A. has nothing else to offer them.

While the Raptors’ incoming package doesn’t jump off the page, it does put them in good position to embark on a proper rebuild. Clearly they want to dump Siakam ASAP; this is their best opportunity to do so.

Finally, while the Hawks don’t get a star back for Murray, they get a first-round pick. That can later be packaged in another deal for a potentially impactful player to pair up with Trae Young.

It is rare for multi-team deals to be good for all parties involved. But this is a rare win-win-win-win.

Will the Hawks, Lakers, Raptors and Mavericks be able to make something happen ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline? Time will tell.
