NBA Scouts Get Brutally Honest About Bronny James

Bronny James averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game for USC during his freshman collegiate season this past year.

Because of his unimpressive stats and the fact that he is coming off an extremely scary cardiac arrest situation, most expected him to return to college.

Last week, Bronny stunned the hoops-watching world when he announced he was declaring for the NBA draft, while also maintaining his collegiate eligibility.

In the process, Bronny also entered the transfer portal. According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, if Bronny remains in school, there is one school he will strongly consider transferring to.

But what if he goes pro? What will happen then?

According to NBA insider Chris Mannix, scouts are split on Bronny.

“NBA scouts are divided on James,” he wrote.

“He has elite defensive tools but lacks the size to defend bigger guards. He showed flashes of being a strong playmaker but isn’t a traditonal point guard. His shooting was streaky.

“Still, he performed well given the near tragic cardiac incident he had last summer. James will go through the evaluation process before making a decision on the NBA draft.”

This of course feels like a conversation that is eerily familiar. When Bronny was still in high school, similar debates ensued about what sort of player he would be at the collegiate level.

Realistically, Bronny likely isn’t joining the NBA this year. He simply wasn’t good enough in college for any team, even the Los Angeles Lakers, to expend a pick on him.

That said, it will be interesting to see what he can do in his sophomore campaign, wherever he ends up playing.

What awaits Bronny in the foreseeable future? Time will tell.
