Warriors Legend Reveals 1 Player They Really Need To Sign

The Golden State Warriors are heading into the 2020-21 season with a lot of expectations. Last year’s poor showing is being written off as an injury-related aberration, and most are viewing the team as top-three in the Western Conference.

This week, Warriors legend Chris Mullin was asked to give his thoughts on what he believes the team needs to do in the offseason to solidify its place as a title contender. In his estimation, the answer is adding a veteran presence.

“I think ideally, you’d like a seasoned veteran,” Mullin told Ali Thanawalla of NBC Sports.

“Even if he played limited minutes during the regular season and you got him ready towards the last 30 games or so, I don’t know, Marc Gasol or someone like that, that you really could depend on in the playoffs.”

Because the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers utilized their size advantage over opponents with such regularity in the playoffs, Mullin’s suggestion makes a lot of sense.

“Again, the Warriors have had tremendous success using that center position by committee and not necessarily being the main focus, but being a very important piece,” Mullin added.

That said, there is one big man currently already on the Warriors roster who Mullin believes could do big things in the near future.

“I like Marquese Chriss,” he said.

“I think his passing ability fits what they do. And he’s a young kid. Last year was the most he’s played. He’s really just trying to find his confidence and find what his game is all about. I thought he did a good job for them.”

It will be interesting to see what Golden State ultimately opts to do down low. Gasol was initially presumed to be destined for the Euro League, but he has since dismissed those rumors as untrue.

Could he end up with the Warriors next season? Absolutely.

Also worth keeping an eye on is what the team does with its No. 2 overall draft pick. Obviously it could be used on a promising young big man talent like James Wiseman out of Memphis, or it could be used in a trade.

Recently the Warriors were linked to a possible deal involving Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic.

As things currently stand, most sports books have Golden State as the third likeliest team in the West to reach the NBA Finals. Will they be able to live up to those expectations? Time will tell.
