LaVar Ball’s Harsh Message For Lakers About LaMelo Ball

LaVar Ball’s Harsh Message For Lakers About LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball is currently one of the most intriguing young stars in the NBA today.

Although him being hurt for the first part of the season made it impossible for the Charlotte Hornets to win in the way folks hoped they would, his skill is undeniable.

On and off the court, the youngster’s swagger and skill is immense. (His girlfriend having to fend off prostitution charges isn’t great, but it is what it is.)

As is usually the case, because of how good LaMelo has looked throughout his short NBA career, he has quietly been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers on several occasions.

Because L.A. is L.A., the natural assumption is that everyone wants to play there and wear the purple and gold.

Recently, in a conversation with Complex, LaVar was asked about whether he would want LaMelo on the Lakers at some point.

LaVar didn’t bother biting his tongue.

“Common sense would tell you, hell no,” he said.

“You did something to my boy Lonzo, and you think I’m going to come back with the others? I gotta be stone-cold crazy.”

LaVar then doubled down.

“No,” he continued.

“I wanted Melo to be a Laker before that ship done sailed. You get rid of ‘Zo and you think I’m going to come back? I’m not that type of foolish guy.”

While LaVar is certainly correct in asserting that the Lakers didn’t do much with Lonzo, part of that was due to his chronic injuries. And as he himself said, those injuries were at least somewhat due to the Big Baller Brand shoes that his dad made him wear.

So, yes, the Lakers mishandled Lonzo. No question about it.

But so did LaVar.

Which is why, the first chance Lonzo got, he went off and signed with Klutch instead of retaining his dad as his representation.

Lonzo’s career hasn’t gone according to plan. Last week’s unfortunate news is just another illustration of that.

But at the moment, LaMelo seems to be doing great.

Will LaVar some day change his mind and permit his youngest boy to come to Los Angeles?

Or has the Ball family permanently blacklisted the Lakers in their household?

One way or another, that question will be answered when LaMelo’s rookie deal with the Hornets ends.
