Klay Thompson Reacts To Warriors Contract Issues
Klay Thompson is entering the final season of a five-year, $190 million contract with the Golden State Warriors.
The front office extended the handsome deal to Thompson in 2019, despite him having just suffered an ACL tear in the NBA Finals. In subsequent years he would miss significant time due to various health woes. And even when he did ultimately return, last year, he was no longer the same player.
All of which makes his looming free agency all the more complicated. This week, reports surfaced that Thompson and Golden State were pretty far away from an agreement regarding the future.
“I’m told that there has been absolutely no progress on a Klay Thompson extension in Golden State,” Adrian Wojnarowski noted.

“They are both still apart on years and money, and there’s a very real possibility that Klay Thompson goes into free agency next summer without a deal.”
Shortly after that report went viral, Thompson took so social media to respond with something of a cryptic message.
Thompson is undeniably one of the greatest shooters of his generation and, back when he was healthy, could be one of the league’s more impressive perimeter defenders.
That said, injuries have taken a toll on him. And while he did obviously return last season, it isn’t hard to see why the Warriors would be skeptical about over-investing in a 33-year-old on the wrong side of his prime.

Thompson is a fun character both on and off the court. Between his impressive ways with the ladies and fierce loyalty to his Golden State OGs, he is definitely one of a kind.
Will that be enough to keep him in a Warriors uniform for the entirety of his NBA career, though? Time will tell.
