Details Of Awkward Joel Embiid, Ty Lue Exchange Revealed (Video)
The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 122-97 last weekend.
Given the final score and how thorough of a thumping it was, the outing itself was regarded by most observers as fairly unremarkable.
One moment that did raise a few eyebrows, though?
A midgame exchange between Sixers star Joel Embiid and Clippers head coach Ty Lue.
Ty Lue: “Embiid is #1 in the league in free throws and James Harden is #3. You take away their free throws and neither guy would be top-10 in scoring.”

Afterward, Lue was asked to expound on what precisely happened there.
I asked Ty Lue what Joel Embiid said to him in this moment.
Joel said, “Oh, so I can’t score without free throws, huh?”
Ty Lue was initially confused, but later explained to Embiid his quote was taken out of context and what he meant. Embiid understood, says Ty. pic.twitter.com/KaLKP5A5ST

While Lue obviously (and somewhat justifiably) claimed his quote was taken out of context, it’s easy to see why Embiid felt some type of way about it.
Mind you, this is a guy who isn’t even afraid to go after his own coach. Just look at the shade he threw at Doc Rivers after Tuesday’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

So of course Embiid will go after a rival coach who he feels like may have slighted him.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t Lue’s first weird exchange with a rival player this year. He had something similar occur with him and LeBron James during a recent Los Angeles Lakers game.
For better or worse, Lue isn’t afraid to speak his mind – even if opposing players, coaches and executives don’t like it.

What sort of drama will that stir up next?
Time will tell.
