Nets Keep Using Different Excuses For Ben Simmons ‘Injury’

Ben Simmons is on the verge of missing four consecutive games for the Brooklyn Nets.

That in itself isn’t too surprising – Simmons has been injured a lot throughout his career.

What is a bit strange, however, is that the Nets have offered a multitude of different excuses for his injuries.

Three games ago, in what ended up being a Nets loss to the Orlando Magic, Simmons was held out due to “rest and maintenance.”

Then over the past two games, two wins against the Atlanta Hawks, he was out with what was described as left leg soreness.

On Monday it was announced that Simmons would miss Brooklyn’s outing against the Memphis Grizzlies with a left lower back nerve impingement.

Understandably, fans are deeply confused as to what is going on with Simmons.

So far Simmons has played in just 15 games over the course of the 2023-24 NBA season. With his team boasting a 24-36 record, the 27-year-old doesn’t seem overly excited to get onto the court.

Moreover, Simmons’ role in getting Jacque Vaughn fired is a matter of public record.

At the beginning of the season Simmons missed two months with a back injury – so it isn’t great that this continues to be a lingering problem for him.

So far this year Simmons is averaging 6.1 points per game on 58.1 percent shooting from the field. In addition, he is chipping in 7.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists per outing.

That is a far cry from the 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists he once averaged in his heyday for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Many hoped that Simmons would be able to turn over a new leaf and start a new chapter with the Nets.

But that hasn’t happened.

Will Simmons, who is still only 27 years old, be able to get his career back on track at some point? Time will tell.
