NBA fans tuned in to Thursday night’s match-up between the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans excited to see the team’s stars show out.
Unfortunately, while LeBron James had an incredible game, the same couldn’t be said for Zion Williamson.
Not only did L.A. spank his squad 133-89, but Williamson looked awful all night. And it wasn’t just a poor statistical showing.
Williamson’s 13 points, two boards and three assists — plus three turnovers — in 26 minutes of action obviously speak for themselves, but he also just looked really out of shape and sluggish throughout.
This wasn’t lost on the fans at home:

After the game, Williamson acknowledged that he looked terrible on Thursday night.
“I got to be better,” Williamson said.
“I got to be more aggressive, finding my shot. I got to do more things to get my team going. I think I was too laid-back tonight, and I just can’t do that. And defensively I got to be better.”
Williamson’s time with the Pelicans has been mired by off-the-court issues, problems with his teammates, and constant injury woes.

At a certain point, the team’s front office is going to need to make a final decision on whether this guy is truly prepared to be the franchise centerpiece.
Thus far, he hasn’t looked the part.
Will Williamson ever be able to live up to the hype that surrounded him when the Pelicans initially drafted him? Time will tell.
