Montrezl Harrell signed a two-year, $19 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason. At the time, many felt like the then-defending champs were getting a steal.
Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out for either side.
In 2020-21 Harrell averaged 13.5 points and 6.2 rebounds on 62.2 percent shooting – a noticeably worse showing than the one that earned him Sixth Man of the Year honors with the LA Clippers just one year earlier.
The 27-year-old has also been acting out a lot on social media as of late.
Why does this matter? Well, as part of the deal he signed last offseason, Harrell has a $9.7 million player option for next season.
Based on his most recent social media post, it is increasingly looking like he may go elsewhere in 2021-22.

Is that a goodbye? It certainly feels like one.
Regardless of whether Harrell returns or not, the Lakers have some big decisions to make over the next few months.
At least one major star is on the trade block. Another is going back-and-forth on whether he wants to return to LA. And now this Harrell situation just complicates matters even further.
Come next season – the Lakers may look very different than they did this past year.
