Michael Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest NBA player of all time. While many have done well in the league since his retirement, no one has exceeded him in stature.
No. 2 on the all-time list, though? That’s very much up in the air.
There is a large segment of the basketball-watching world that believes the honor belongs with LeBron James. Another group thinks the answer is Kobe Bryant.
This week, during a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Jackson waded into the debate.
When asked about whether Bryant or James had the better overall mentality, Jackson didn’t vacillate.

“That’s a close one,” he said. “I would take Kobe’s mentality. The reason why is because I would be successful in life, period. Whether it be basketball or somewhere else, I’m going to be good.”
Jackson isn’t the first person to delve into this topic. Carmelo Anthony did so just a few days ago. A few months earlier, Jerry West, the man who brought Bryant to the Los Angeles Lakers offered a very different take on who was better. And of course Bryant himself was very open on who’d win a 1-on-1 battle between himself and James.

This is one of those debates that there is no wrong answer to. Everyone has their own opinion – and each one is valid in its own way.
