Kevin Durant Reveals His 2028 Olympics Plan

Kevin Durant Reveals His 2028 Olympics Plan

Kevin Durant stands as one of basketball’s greatest Olympic competitors, with an unprecedented collection of four gold medals earned in the 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 Games.

The Phoenix Suns star has consistently dominated international competition, becoming Team USA‘s all-time leading Olympic scorer with 518 career points and earning FIBA Men’s Olympics MVP honors in 2020.

Durant recently addressed his future Olympic aspirations during an appearance on Draymond Green’s podcast. When questioned about potentially participating in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Durant expressed openness to the possibility, stating “there’s a chance” he would represent Team USA again.

His consideration comes with clear conditions, however. Durant emphasized he would only participate if he could maintain his high level of play and contribute meaningfully to the team’s success. “I don’t want that ‘OG, man, just come be one of the guys. We need your presence’ type,” Durant explained. “I want to hoop.”

The timing of the Los Angeles Games presents an age consideration for Durant, who will be 39 years old in 2028. Despite being in his 17th NBA season, Durant shows no signs of decline, averaging impressive statistics with the Suns:

Stat Category 2024-25 Season Average
Points 26.9 per game
Rebounds 6.0 per game
Assists 4.3 per game
Shooting 54/40/83 splits

The Los Angeles location adds special significance to Durant’s potential fifth Olympic appearance. Competing on home soil would provide a fitting stage for what might be the final chapter of his remarkable international career.

While some of Durant’s contemporaries have already ruled out participating in the 2028 Games, his willingness to consider one more Olympic run speaks to his competitive drive and love for representing the United States. If Durant participates and secures another gold medal, he would further cement his status as arguably the greatest Olympic basketball player in history.

The decision ultimately hinges on Durant’s physical condition and performance level in the coming years. His stance remains practical but optimistic: “If I’m up to that level, and I’m still hooping at that level, and I expect myself to be, then yeah. I would definitely love to be a part of that.”
