Joel Embiid Considering Leaving Team USA For Another Country In 2028

Joel Embiid has been a deeply polarizing personality at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It started with his controversial decision to abandon the French National Team in favor of playing for Team USA in this year’s games.

French fans didn’t take kindly to the move – despite Embiid later revealing the real reason for it.

What followed was Embiid repeatedly struggling for pretty much all of Team USA’s games except for its most recent one against Serbia.

In that win, Embiid – along with Stephen Curry – was one of the more pivotal pieces of the American side’s winning puzzle.

Still, there is no denying that Embiid was mostly disappointing for the entirety of the 2024 Olympics. And all things considered, maybe choosing to play for Team USA wasn’t ideal for his global brand.

This week, Embiid talked about his time with Team USA and suggested he may play for another country in 2028.

“It’s been a good experience,” Embiid said this week.

“It’s been a grind, being away from home and family for a few weeks. But the group of guys we have made it easy. Paris is a great city and the next one is LA. It might not be with Team USA, it might be with Cameroon.”

Whose flag will Embiid ultimately represent in 2028? An answer one way or another is coming soon enough.
