The rivalry between Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns and Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid dates back to at least 2017.

In the years since, the pair has exchanged everything from words to fists.
This week, a new chapter in the feud was written when Towns issued a warning to Embiid, Nikola Jokic and all of the NBA’s preeminent centers.
That message? Get ready for extreme intensity any time they square off.
“Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Alex Len, it don’t matter who the big man is,” he said, per Chris Hine of the Star Tribune. “As long as they’re in front of me and they’re the opponent, I’m playing with 110 percent intensity.”
This is shaping up to be a big year for Towns. He is currently being linked to a particularly massive blockbuster trade that could radically alter the makeup of the Western Conference. But even if it doesn’t ultimately come to fruition, how he and the Wolves fare this season will be telling.

If Minnesota can get it together, string together a playoff showing and display some semblance of a bright future – Towns may remain with the franchise going forward.
Should the opposite occur, though – it’s hard to see a scenario where Towns remains with the franchise for much longer.
