A video of Ja Morant chugging Casamigos Tequila at the club caused something of a stir this week amid the Memphis Grizzlies’ failed 2022-23 season.
Earlier this year, Morant and the Grizzlies were viewed as the future of the NBA. He looked to have all the makings of an MVP-type player, and Memphis seemed like a squad on the come-up.
Then everything fell apart.
Morant became embroiled in one ugly controversy after another, culminating in dancers coming out and vocally complaining about him. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, fell apart in the playoffs – getting upset as the No. 2 seed by the No. 7 Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.
This week, a video surfaced of Morant going wild at the club.

It is unclear when this video was filmed, but it definitely furthers the existing narratives around Morant.
NBA fans had some strong reactions to the footage.

It will be interesting to see where Morant and the Grizzlies go from here. Dillon Brooks has somehow turned into the fall guy for all the team’s recent woes, but it’s not clear why.
The fact that a championship contender is getting ready to scoop Brooks up this summer is probably a healthy indication hat nobody actually views him as the problem with the Grizzlies.

If anyone is the issue, it’s Morant.
Will he finally at some point show the sort of maturity and stability that is needed from a leader in the NBA? Time will tell.
