Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown signed a very lucrative five-year, $304 million contract this past offseason.
The deal pays him like he is one of the best players in NBA history, though obviously few would actually agree that he fits that bill. In fact, he isn’t even the best player on his own team.
Most objective observers believe that Brown’s teammate, Jayson Tatum, is in fact the superior talent.
This week, Brown seemed to suggest that the perception of him being Robin to Tatum’s Batman is misguided. In his estimation, if given the opportunity to lead a team, he would be one of the NBA’s best players.
Eagle-eyed observers noticed that Brown ‘Liked’ this particular post on Twitter/X recently:
“If Jaylen Brown was the #1 on a team he would average over 30 ppg and be in the MVP conversation,” the tweet read.
Clearly Brown agrees with the sentiment, as evidenced by him liking it.
Brown is no stranger to landing in the headlines. Between his awkward encounter with Josh Giddey and his girlfriend causing a hubbub at a recent game, he is always blowing up online for something or other.

So far this season Brown is averaging 22.9 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field and 34.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Last year he averaged 26.6 points per game on 49.1 percent shooting from the field and 33.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Brown’s rebounding numbers are down a bit from last year, too – but he is also averaging two fewer minutes per outing.

It will be interesting to see what Brown and the Celtics are ultimately able to accomplish in 2024.
A lot of the perception of Brown stems from Boston’s inability to win an NBA championship.
If that changes, and if Brown is the reason the Celtics win another chip, then maybe NBA fans will finally start giving him the respect he clearly believes he deserves.
