Brian Windhorst Reveals ‘Winner’ Of Knicks, Timberwolves Trade
The Minnesota Timberwolves turned the NBA world on its head when they traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks last week.
Given that Towns was regarded by most as Minnesota’s second-best player, folks had strong reactions to the move.
Anthony Edwards, specifically, had some blunt comments on it this week.
During a recent appearance on ESPN, NBA insider Brian Windhorst gave a surprising assessment of who won that trade between the Knicks and Timberwolves.
“I was kind of surprised over the last week at how many executives I talked to who felt like the Timberwolves won this trade, which is not something you would expect to hear when most people would agree the best player in the trade went to the Knicks,” Windhorst said.
“I was kind of surprised … at how many executives I talked to who felt like the Timberwolves won this trade.” 👀

“I think what they’re reacting to is the way the Wolves were able to rebalance their roster in this trade, get Julius, get DiVincenzo, who helps them off the bench, give Rob Dillingham — their lottery pick — some time where he’s not maybe needed as much out of the gate. Also, reduce their long-term payroll for a guy in (Towns) who had a really big contract.”
Obviously Towns was owed $200 million – quite the hefty amount. But that is the value of a player of his caliber around the NBA.
It will be interesting to see when everything is said and done who is ultimately viewed as the victor of this trade between the Knicks and Timberwolves.
