Bill Guerin Named Minnesota Wild GM, Is Team Preparing To Make Big Trade?
Bill Guerin has been named the new general manager of the Minnesota Wild.
Team owner Craig Leipold made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon. He had conducted a search to fill the vacant position alongside team president Matt Majka and hall of famer Mike Modano.
“I am thrilled to announce we have hired Bill Guerin, a four-time Stanley Cup champion, as General Manager of the Minnesota Wild,” Leipold said.

Guerin will step in to fill the shoes of Paul Fenton, who was fired from his job earlier this summer after serving just one year in the position.
After an illustrious NHL playing career, Guerin had been on the short list of many GM searches before finally landing this gig with the Wild.
Over the course of 18 years, Guerin played with the N.J. Devils, Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Upon retiring, Guerin received a job with the Penguins as a development coach in 2011. Ultimately, he worked his way up to assistant GM of the team.
Modano’s inclusion in the search process no doubt played some role in Guerin’s hiring. The pair played three years together with the Stars and then played alongside one another on the U.S. national team.
Guerin had interviewed for this very job just one year ago before ultimately being passed over for Fenton.
Now Guerin will need to hit the ground running, taking over a team that just missed the playoffs for the first time in seven years.
Somehow he will need to juggle the roster and make some big trades to rejuvenate a roster that in 2019 boasted way too many overpaid veterans and not enough promising young talent.
Which big trades are on the horizon for Minnesota? We should find out soon enough.

The Wild were so fucking depressing last year. The one good thing in Minnesota sports and poof. Hopefully this is the start of a turnaround.
Honestly feel like last season was the exception and not the rule. Good hire.
