Is John Beilein going to Boston College, Texas or Georgia Tech after stepping down from the Cleveland Cavaliers?

On Wednesday, Beilein and Cleveland officially went their separate ways following an unsuccessful partnership that lasted slightly more than half a season.

Beilein departed from Michigan after the 2018 season to take over as head coach of the Cavaliers. It did not go well.

At the time of his exit, Beilein’s team had the league’s second-worst record at 14-40. That put them behind only the Golden State Warriors, who are probably trying to lose at this stage.

“I find losing very challenging and this year has taken a much bigger toll on me than I expected,” he said.

“I grew concerned for the consequences this toll could potentially take on my own health and my family’s well-being down the road.

“I was not certain I could be at my best for the remainder of the season and in the future. That would not be fair to the players, coaches and support staff.”

The big question now becomes: where will Beilein coach in 2021?

Odds have been released on the 67-year-old’s next landing spot, and it features all the usual suspects.

Boston College sits as the favorite at +300. Right after that is Texas, who is listed at +500. From there Georgia Tech comes in third at +700. Finally, Wake Forest is last at +800.

Beilein would likely go a long way to improving all of the options listed.

If buyouts were not a factor, any one of those basketball programs would probably push their current head coach aside for a proven winner at the collegiate level like him.

Unfortunately, buyouts are a factor. A buyout of Texas coach Shaka Smart, for example, would cost the Longhorns $10 million.

One way or another, Beilein will return to the college game next season. Where precisely he will land is anyone’s guess.
