Dave Portnoy Bashes Peter King Over Joey Chestnut, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest
Dave Portnoy bashed NBC NFL insider Peter King on Sunday over his controversial take regarding Joey Chestnut and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Chestnut winning Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4th has become something of a tradition. This year, Chestnut once again participated in the tournament – and once again set a brand new record.
Most were happy to have witnessed the accomplishment. King was not one of those people.
He started off by retweeting someone who wrote, “The media could do the culture a favor and ignore the sickening spectacle of competitive eating. It’s revolting.”
King then added to it by noting, “What he said.”
When someone replied to him telling him that nobody was forcing him to watch, King decided to take it one step further.
“Never have,” he tweeted. “Never will. Not the point. The fact is, ESPN celebrates the birthday of our country by airing a gluttonous, vomitous and grotesque event. Eating is not a sport. Competitive eating is a sin.”
That is when Portnoy decided to step in.
“Peter you are fat and grotesque and they’ve been putting you on tv for 4 decades and nobody complained,” the Barstool Sports founder said.
Portnoy and King have had issues in the past, so the latter finding himself as the target of ire from the former is not particularly surprising.
As of Monday morning, King has yet to acknowledge Portnoy’s tweet.
