Michelle Jenneke’s Provocative Beach Day Photos Go Viral

Michelle Jenneke is objectively and without question one of the most memorable track and field stars of her generation.

In 2010 she won a silver medal for the 100-meter hurdles at the Summer Youth Olympics. Six years later, in 2016, Jenneke won the 100-meter hurdles at the Australian Athletics Championships and earned a slot in the Rio Olympic Games.

Jenneke’s track and field accomplishments speak for themselves. But they aren’t the sole reason she penetrated the larger cultural zeitgeist. What she really blew up for was her pre-race warmup, which left a huge impression:

Jenneke’s unique way of getting ready for her races earned her a slot in the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

In the years since her initial rise to prominence, Jenneke has cultivated a very impressive social media presence.

On Instagram alone she boasts more 556,000 followers – quite the fan base when you consider the relative obscurity of her particular sport.

This past week Jenneke shared some beach photos. For obvious reasons, they immediately set the internet ablaze:

Jenneke seems to do a ton of engagement on a lot of her Instagram content.

Despite having been out of the mainstream limelight for a while, it seems like fans really love keeping up with her:

The most obvious parallel here to Jenneke is McKayla Maroney.

Although Maroney hasn’t competed on the Olympic stage in more than a decade, she routinely goes viral for her provocative photos and very racy videos. Although she boasts about a million more followers than Jenneke, a lot of that can be attributed to various factors outside of Jenneke’s control.

The crazy thing is: Jenneke is still just 29 years. She has a long career of social media influencing ahead of her, should she choose to go that route.

What will she ultimately go viral for next?

Time will tell.
