Kirk Herbstreit Officially Taking Over Monday Night Football?

Kirk Herbstreit has long been recognized as ESPN’s most high profile college football personality.

Now it appears the College Gameday analyst is in serious contention to take over arguably the most coveted hosting responsibilities owned by the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

ESPN has been struggling to find a workable lineup for Monday Night Football for years. The big question is whether Herbstreit is actually the solution.

In ESPN’s estimation, he checks a lot of boxes.

“The NFL likes Herbstreit,” Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported.

“And he could do double duty and team with new MNF play-by-play favorite Steve Levy.”

The only real issue with Herbstreit is that he would be a fit of a fish out water leading ESPN’s NFL coverage. Although he is known and respected for his college football acumen, pro football is a whole different animal.

That is not to say that Herbstreit would not be great at that as well, but it is tough to learn on the job. If he does not naturally work in the role, it is very difficult to develop into it. Just ask Jason Witten.

A final decision on Monday Night Football’s lineup should come at some point in the next few weeks.
