Dianna Russini Identifies New Derek Carr Suitor Amid Saints Rumors

Derek Carr has quietly become the hottest free agent quarterback in the NFL in recent days.

Obviously Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers is the bigger name, but Carr seems to be soaking up just as much attention right now.

For days it has been one of the league’s worst kept secrets that the New Orleans Saints are making a serious play for Carr’s services.

But now a new team appears to be making a push for the 31-year-old.

According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the Jets are suddenly a team watch in the race for Carr.

“The New York Jets are really interested in Derek Carr. Nothing but positive reviews, per sources,” Russini said.

“Now they wait for Aaron Rodgers to emerge from the darkness and inform the Packers of his plans. The Jets will be speaking to Green Bay about a trade IF the Packers are willing.”

While Russini made headlines in recent weeks for her provocative Super Bowl outfit, what she is actually famous for is being extremely plugged-in on all things NFL. If she says there is something there between Carr and the Jets, there is.

Carr obviously struggled for large swaths of the 2022-23 NFL season because he and Josh McDaniels simply could not get on the same page.

His 60.8 completion percentage was the second-worst of his career, though he did throw 24 touchdowns this year in 15 games versus 23 touchdowns in 17 games last year.

The consensus around the league seems to be that last season was a likely aberration.

Obviously the Jets will be interested in Rodgers as well, but time will tell if they deem him worth the headache he inevitably brings. And the Packers’ asking price is very steep.

Who will Carr ultimately end up with by the time the 2023-24 NFL season rolls around? Time will tell.
