Ryan Day’s 2 Potential Landing Spots After Ohio State Exit

Ryan Day’s 2 Potential Landing Spots After Ohio State Exit

Ryan Day’s time with the Ohio State Buckeyes has been mired by underperformance and disappointment.

This past weekend his squad fell to a Jim Harbaugh-less Michigan group 30-24 in an outing that many have sunk their National Championship aspirations.

After falling to the Wolverines for the third straight year, Day is now facing calls for his job. In a football weekend that Tim Tebow’s wife’s provocative outfit to a game set the internet ablaze, Brian Kelly’s daughter’s wild video cause a stir, and a Michigan cheerleader’s racy photos leak out, it was Day’s ineptness that still stole the show.

As noted by ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, the writing is on the wall for Day.

“I think he’s got a real problem,” Finebaum said.

“I don’t like the path ahead…I think he’s a very good coach. But you can’t lose that game. That speaks for itself. I’d get out of there, while you can.”

If Day does exit Ohio State, two schools seem like the clear frontrunners for his services.

The first is Florida. When the Gators added Billy Napier, they had visions of him doing for their program what he had previously for Louisiana. As it turns out, coaching in the SEC is a little different than the Sun Belt.

Napier is 11-14 over the course of two years in Florida and just fired a bunch of his assistants after another failed campaign. Day would be a more natural fit here and would maximize the talent on the roster in a way Napier is clearly incapable of.

If not the Gators, Arkansas makes a ton of sense as well. The Razorbacks are 1-7 this year and sit dead last in the SEC West. If not for Vanderbilt being Vanderbilt, this squad would be the worst in the entire conference. That is telling.

A shake-up is needed. Sam Pittman has lost control of things. And Day could be just the man to fix them.

Clearly Day has worn out his welcome at Ohio State. A change is needed for both sides.

Where will Day ultimately be coaching come Day 1 of the 2024 college football season? Time will tell.
