Notre Dame Makes A Surprising Coaching Change
Notre Dame made a surprising coaching change this week.
Heading into 2019 many wondered if this would be Brian Kelly’s final year with the Fighting Irish.
It wasn’t.
Kelly plans to be back for 2020, but one of his assistants will not return.
On Thursday, Kelly announced that defensive backs coach Todd Lyght would not be coming back next season.

“I’d like to thank Todd for his years of service to his alma mater. He has been a valuable part of our staff and his impact as both a player and coach here at Notre Dame will be lasting,” he said.
“As he leaves the university to pursue future endeavors, I’m grateful for everything Todd contributed, and we wish him, Stefanie and their family nothing but the best.”
Lyght is a former Notre Dame player and Pro Bowl cornerback. He has been on Kelly’s staff for four years.
The Fighting Irish finished this past season with a 10-2 regular season record. Unfortunately, because those two defeats came against arguably their toughest competition of the year, many felt like their record was slightly inflated.
Nevertheless, Notre Dame ended the year on a high note with a victory over Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl.
It remains to be seen who Kelly ultimately chooses to fill Lyght’s shoes.
