Notre Dame Football Recruiting Surge Continues Into June 2026

Marcus Freeman is putting together one of the best recruiting classes in the country at Notre Dame, and the momentum is building heading into June.
The Irish landed eight commitments in May alone. They now have 30 commitments in the 2026 class, ranking among the top classes nationally. The defensive line haul has been particularly impressive, with multiple four-star and five-star prospects in the fold.
This is a major shift for a program that has historically been good but not elite on the recruiting trail. Notre Dame has always punched slightly below its national brand when it came to landing top high school talent. Freeman is changing that. He has built a staff that hits the road hard, communicates well with prospects and sells the Notre Dame experience effectively.
The momentum has carried into the 2027 class as well. Notre Dame is in great shape there, though there is still significant work to be done. They lost out on a key linebacker target Sunday when Noah Glover of Virginia committed to Miami. Tight end remains a position of need that has not been fully addressed.
The defensive line class for 2027 looks like a monster in the making. Notre Dame is in serious competition for Markus Fakatou and Brayden Parks. The program is targeting up to six five-star prospects in the 2027 class. If they hit on even half of those, the Irish defensive line will be elite for years.
What is driving this success? Two things. First, Freeman himself is a recruiter. Players want to play for him. He communicates authenticity in a way that resonates with high school athletes. Second, Notre Dame’s brand still travels nationally. Most other programs have to recruit locally or regionally. Notre Dame can pull from anywhere in the country, and Freeman knows how to leverage that.
The 2025 season went well enough on the field that Notre Dame is no longer just selling tradition. They are selling current relevance. The College Football Playoff appearances and consistent national rankings have given Freeman the kind of recent results he can put in front of recruits.
The next big push is for elite quarterback talent. Notre Dame has been good at developing quarterbacks under Freeman, but they have not consistently landed the very top prospects at the position. That is the next frontier. If they can get the right quarterback in the 2027 class, the offensive ceiling jumps significantly.
The Irish are positioned for a strong run. They have a head coach who recruits at an elite level. They have a brand that opens doors. They have a defensive scheme that travels. They have an NIL infrastructure that has become competitive with the SEC and Big Ten programs.
The 2026 season will be the next test. Notre Dame returns enough talent to make another Playoff push. If they hit, the recruiting momentum becomes self-sustaining for years. If they slip, the questions about whether Freeman can take the program to the next level get louder.
For now, the recruiting trail belongs to Notre Dame. That is a real accomplishment.
