Donovan McNabb’s Son Commits to UNLV Over Power 4 Offers in Surprise Decision

Donovan McNabb Jr. picked UNLV. That is not a typo, and it is not a wild guess. The son of the longtime Philadelphia Eagles quarterback announced his commitment to the Rebels on Friday, choosing Las Vegas over offers from a long list of Power 4 schools.

“All the glory to the one above I’m Home!!! #Rebels,” McNabb Jr. wrote on X, along with a clip of the announcement.

McNabb Jr. is a three-star wide receiver out of Brophy College Prep in Phoenix. He held offers from Kansas State, Iowa, Minnesota, and Iowa State. He was also linked to Syracuse, where his father played his college ball. UNLV beat all of them.

Why UNLV Was the Pick

This was not a lazy recruitment. The Rebels are not just lucky to land a McNabb. UNLV has built one of the more interesting Group of Five programs in the country over the last few seasons, riding strong NIL infrastructure and a quarterback-friendly system that has produced real offensive production.

For a three-star receiver looking for early playing time, on-campus development, and a program on the rise, UNLV is a reasonable bet. The Rebels can offer immediate touches in a way that Iowa or Kansas State cannot.

Vegas is also a recruiting weapon. Players want to be there. The lifestyle, the visibility, and the chance to play in front of a national audience inside Allegiant Stadium are all selling points that traditional college towns cannot match.

The McNabb Background

Donovan McNabb Sr. spent 13 years in the NFL, 11 of them with the Eagles. He went to six Pro Bowls. He led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl appearance in 2005, where they lost a close game to the New England Patriots. He is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Eagles history.

His son took a different path. McNabb Jr. caught 23 passes for 280 yards and five touchdowns as a junior in 2025 at Brophy. Productive numbers, not eye-popping ones. He played alongside Larry Fitzgerald’s son Devin, who committed to Notre Dame months ago.

The receiver group at Brophy this past year was loaded with sons of NFL legends. The recruiting trail covered it heavily, and McNabb Jr. was always going to be a name to watch.

What He Brings to Las Vegas

UNLV head coach Barry Odom landed a polished route runner with NFL bloodlines. McNabb Jr. plays the position the way you would expect from a kid who grew up around NFL quarterbacks. He is precise, smart out of the break, and has the kind of football IQ that does not show up in three-star ratings.

The Rebels need depth at receiver. They have lost talent to the portal and the NFL over the past two cycles. A high-character recruit with skills and family pedigree fits the rebuild perfectly.

McNabb Jr. is also not the first of Donovan’s kids to play college sports on scholarship. The McNabb family has built a track record of producing athletes who outperform their rankings.

UNLV needed a recruiting splash that traveled beyond the Mountain West. They got one. Friday’s commitment will not change the win-loss record next year, but it is going to bring attention to a program that has been quietly building something real in the desert.
