Strong’s presence should serve as a backup for Mullen in the event his defensive coordinator Todd Grantham leaves for the NFL at some point.
Over the last two seasons Grantham has frequently been mentioned for various pro level coordinator roles – including one with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Most recently, Grantham was a candidate for the Mississippi State head coaching job.
Grantham is owed $1.8 million in each of the next two years.
