Truth About Why Spencer Rattler Chose South Carolina Finally Revealed
Spencer Rattler was one of the hottest available college football free agents on the market this year.
After ultimately being linked to three programs, including a prolonged flirtation with Arizona State University, he eventually settled on South Carolina.
Ever since it was announced that Rattler was joining the Gamecocks, many have wondered where precisely things went awry between him and ASU.
Last week, an answer seemed to emerge.
A few days ago, Matt Barrie of ESPN reported that “Rattler and his camp were asking for too much,” and that’s why the ASU thing never came to fruition.
“Rattler and his camp were asking for too much,” Barrie wrote. “ASU passed. Find me where I gave misinformation. I believe I said: Spencer Rattler will not attend ASU? Was I wrong?”
That in turned earned a strong reaction from Rattler’s dad.
Matt you have been lying about this situation the whole time. The ASU coaching staff contacted us when they thought Jaden was going to declare for the draft. When Jaden changed his mind we advised them we were not interested. Simple as that! No need to manufacture drama!

“I’m not manufacturing drama,” Barrie replied. “It’s an NIL era in CFB everywhere and no one faults anyone for asking for it. I know there was interest. You ended up in a great situation in Columbia. Its win for you, Spencer, and the Gamecocks.”
Prompting this response from the Rattler family:
Unfortunately, Matt has become a mouthpiece for Herm and/or someone close to him and is trying to take heat off him; it’s really made his comments unreliable as they cannot remain independent; but players shouldn’t be used as collateral damage

Barrie stood by his initial report, though.
“You follow who you want and believe who you want,” he said. “I’m confident in what I know is going on in Tempe. I support ASU thick and thin. Don’t support me or believe me. Fine. I wont lose any sleep.”
Rattler, for what it’s worth, doesn’t seem to be too concerned with ASU anymore. He is hyped to make his South Carolina debut, as evidenced by this hype video he published:

This is going to be a big year for Rattler. The way things ended with Oklahoma coupled with his decision to beef with his Sooners replacement Caleb Williams after the fact reflected really poorly on him.
This is his opportunity to rewrite the narrative.
Yikes. https://t.co/IlPct6UWMi

Will Rattler ultimately be able to get it done? Time will tell.
