Clay Helton pays the price for a weak USC recruiting class.
National Signing Day is coming and going, and the Trojans are having an absolutely embarrassing showing.
As it stands, USC has the 76th recruiting class in the nation, a far cry from where the program generally finds itself.
One of the consistent issues that has plagued the Trojans under Helton’s reign has been their inability to recruit to expectations. That trend continued this year.
Currently, USC ranks behind Bowling Green and Toledo when it comes to 2020 recruiting.
At this point in time, Helton’s upcoming class has exactly one four-star commit. If not for Tuli Tuipulotu coming to town, USC wouldn’t have even cracked the top 80.
The only school with a worse recruiting showing the Pac-12 is Utah.
People are absolutely ripping the school a new one over the recruiting issues.
“You really should be able to put together a top-20 recruiting class at USC without even trying,” tweeted out Alex Kirshner.
“Just say ‘OK guys, let us know if you wanna play here. Cool.’ That USC is in the 70s should be impossible.”
Regardless of how the 9-4 Trojans finish the year off in the Holiday Bowl, this does not bode well for the direction of the program.
