Baker Mayfield was named the Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback this week.
Given the magnitude of the announcement and what both he and his wife Emily have been through over the past year, emotions were understandably high heading into Friday’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.
With all eyes on them, Emily decided to go all out in terms of wardrobe for the big night.

Baker did his part as well. This absolute dart to running back Chuba Hubbard caught a lot of people’s attention, and for good reason:

When it was all said and done, Baker finished the evening 9-of-15 for 89 yards with two touchdowns. Obviously preseason is just preseason, but if you were hoping to go into the regular season on a high note – this is about the best performance you could hope for.
Emily has been something of a mainstay in the headlines this summer. Just last week, her outfit choice for Baker’s preseason Panthers debut set the internet ablaze.
Before that, she blew up online over her honest response to Baker getting dealt, Halloween costume choice drama and Baker’s awkward DMs mess from some time ago.
If past is prologue, it’s safe to assume that the Mayfield family will be in the news nonstop as the year progresses. They have a knack for it and, frankly, the media loves to scrutinize them to no end.
That being said, there is a real opportunity for Baker to write his own story in 2022-23. The Cleveland Browns discarded him like he was nothing. They made it seem like he had no value around the NFL.

One way or another, Baker’s legacy will be on the line over the next few weeks and months.
Will he and Emily be able to establish themselves as one of the NFL’s more legitimate power couples?
Time will tell.
