The Cleveland Browns traded Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers this week for a conditional 2024 draft selection.
That pick is a fifth-rounder that will turn into a fourth-rounder should the polarizing quarterback play in 70 percent of the Panthers’ offensive snaps.
Although some in the locker room have attempted to revolt against Baker, it is hard to see a scenario where he doesn’t meet that mark.
Shortly after the trade was announced, Baker’s wife Emily Mayfield took to Instagram to react:
The message Emily was trying to convey there is clear. She wants the public to know that, contrary to popular sentiment, her husband is actually very wanted in Carolina. Panthers fans are excited to have him, according to her.
Whether that is true or not remains to be seen.
Emily has become something of a mainstay in conversations surrounding her husband. Whether she is speaking openly about his mental status or making various troubling confessions – she generally keeps it pretty real.
She also routinely goes viral for other things.
Sometimes Emily sets the internet ablaze with her provocative outfits. Other times it’s her controversial messages that she then has to go back delete. And then of course there are just her general Instagram posts, which usually do strong engagement numbers:

It’s always something, though.
It will be interesting to see how the Mayfields fare in Carolina. Towards the end of Baker’s run with the Browns, he had somehow become underrated as a quarterback. He is no Patrick Mahomes, but he also isn’t as bad as his critics made him out to be.
Baker led the Browns to their first playoff berth since 2002 just two years ago. And while he definitely struggled last season, he was also mired by injuries.

If he is healthy, he could be a great pick-up for the Panthers in 2022.
What version of Baker is coming to Carolina?
