Zach Wilson’s Blunt Reaction To Jets Trading For Deebo Samuel

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson is entering the new NFL season with a lot to prove. As his team’s first-round selection and anointed franchise player, expectations are high heading into 2022-23.

While everyone agrees that Wilson was something of a mixed bag last season, there is also a general acknowledgement that he didn’t have much help.

The Jets attempted to acquire Tyreek Hill a couple of months back, but ultimately failed miserably. They then turned their attention to three star wide receivers, and that pursuit may be bearing some fruit.

Currently, New York is the favorite to acquire Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers. It’s unclear whether that deal will ultimately come to fruition or not, but at the moment, they have the best odds.

On Wednesday, Wilson addressed the topic of his squad landing one of the most potent offensive weapons in the NFL.

“Deebo is a great player, there would be no hesitation there,” Wilson said. “What we’d have to give up isn’t up to me.”

The Jets passer also addressed his team missing out on Hill.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get that one, but that’s part of it,” he said. “We’re really gonna work to get the next one, I’m sure.”

Samuel recorded 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 total scores last year. He would be an instant shot in the arm for the Jets on offense.

It’s clear at this point that the Jets’ front office thinks it has its quarterback of the future in Wilson. They spent a high pick on him, and although he appears to be having some problems with his girl and his mother, he showed enough potential in his rookie campaign to earn a starting spot.

Samuel could be the piece that takes Wilson to the next level.

At the moment, the women in Wilson’s life put him in the headlines more than his play does. With his mom’s knack for drama involving her provocative social media posts and then her amazing ‘crack whore’ drama, it’s always just one issue after another.

Will a Wilson-Samuel dynamic duo change that? Will it ensure that the Jets are in the news for something more than just being a laughing stock in New York?

The next 24 hours may make or break this franchise’s fortunes for years to come. And they’ll have massive ramifications for Wilson’s career in the short-term.

Will Samuel be a Jet come this time next week? Time will tell.
