XFL Week 2 Ratings Released

XFL Week 2 ratings were released on Tuesday. As expected, the numbers dipped a bit from Week 1.

Last weekend, the XFL made its triumphant debut after two decades off the air. Naturally, a lot of curious viewers tuned in to see the drama unfold.

The big question everyone had after the fact was: how many of those viewers would stick around?

This week, we got our answer.

In Week 1, the two outings that aired on ESPN drew an average of 2.9 million viewers. In particular, the Cardale Jones-led DC Defenders pulled a 3.3 million viewer audience.

This time around, the numbers were a little lower.

A Week 2 battle between the Defenders and New York Guardians drew 2.1 million viewers, with a peak of more than 2.3 million viewers.

Jones, a former Ohio State star and Los Angeles Chargers backup, is currently the frontrunner to be league MVP and its most notable star.

Week 3 will answer a lot of questions regarding the XFL’s staying power.

On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Vipers will square off against the Houston Roughnecks on ABC. Then the Renegades will take on the Seattle Dragons on Fox.

One day later, on Sunday, the St. Louis Battlehawks will host the Guardians on ESPN, while the Defenders will take on the Wildcats on Fox Sports 1.

If the ratings hold steady right around the range they were in this past weekend, it would be a tremendously positive sign for the XFL as a whole.
