Why Chris Godwin Gave Tom Brady His Jersey
Why did Chris Godwin give Tom Brady his jersey? This week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver decided to do something nice for his new quarterback.
That nice gesture? Giving up his jersey number so that Brady could have his old one. Godwin will now wear No. 14.
Recently, Godwin mentioned that he would prefer to retain his number.
“But if he does (want No. 12), out of respect for everything he’s accomplished and everything that he’s done I will kinda have to defer to him,” Godwin said.
“He’s the G.O.A.T., you know. If he’s willing to give it up, perfect but if he’s not, then I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”
So why did Godwin ultimately do what he did? What did he get out of it?
Nothing.
“For all the talk about what Chris Godwin might get from Tom Brady for No. 12 with the Bucs, there was no compensation. ‘Gave it to him out of respect,’ Godwin’s agent, Tory Dandy, said. Impressive,” Greg Auman tweeted out.
This could be the beginning of a truly special partnership.
