Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani is arguably the most versatile player in Major League Baseball today.

The 27-year-old’s accomplishments speak for themselves at this point: he is an MVP, All-Star, All-MLB First Teamer, Rookie of the Year and AP Athlete of the Year.

Currently, thanks in no small part to Ohtani, the Angels are 23-13 and sit tied with the Houston Astros for the AL West lead.

Understandably, given how immensely talented he is, fans have been clamoring to learn more about Ohtani. Namely: who is his girlfriend?

The answer to that question is a bit complex.

At one point last year multiple media outlets linked the Angels standout to Hawaiian woman Kamalani Dung. Speculation started because of a post that apparently went up on her Instagram account:

Since then, aside from one minor Twitter interaction, the pair ceased any sort of public engagement. And seeing as Dung’s Instagram is pretty viral by nature, it feels like that’s telling:

It feels like if there was something there, Dung’s Instagram would show it.

Which brings us back to the original question of: who is Ohtani’s girlfriend presently then? At the moment, it feels like he doesn’t have one. Or at least he doesn’t have one that he wants to go public with at this time.

Which makes sense – given the sort of treatment other sports celebrity significant others get. Look at what has happened to Patrick Mahomes’ wife, or Russell Wilson’s wife, or seemingly every NBA wife.

It’s brutal stuff.

Plus, Ohtani’s lack of romantic commitments would also explain why he is so effective as a player right now. No distractions. No drama. No noise.

Even the non-romantic relationships he is in right now sometimes seem to cause him a lot of tension.

Maybe once he wins himself a World Series, Ohtani will be more comfortable focusing on other aspects of his life.

But for now?

It appears like baseball is enough for him at the moment.
