Washington Redskins Will Hire David Shaw As Next Coach

The Washington Redskins will hire David Shaw as their next head coach, it would appear.

Shaw, currently the coach of Stanford, has received NFL interest for many years now, so in some ways this isn’t surprising.

What is a bit odd is the timing of the Redskins’ interest. Shaw’s Stanford squad went 4-8 this year, their worst record since he took over the program in 2011 and his first time missing a bowl game.

That being said, Shaw’s overall record at Stanford is still a respectable 86-34.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, “Washington has interest in Stanford coach David Shaw for its coaching vacancy, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.”

The interest in Shaw apparently comes straight from the top.

“Washington head of football operations Bruce Allen is a big proponent of Shaw’s, sources said, and both have ties to the Raiders organization,” La Canfora writes.

Shaw would certainly make a lot of sense for a rudderless Redskins team, but he will likely be the team’s Plan B – with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin continuing to be their preferred choice.
