USC Has Made Final Decision On Clay Helton

USC has made a final decision on Clay Helton.

According to Bruce Feldman and Colin Cowherd, Helton has somehow overcome the odds and impressed his new bosses at USC. That means the coach on everyone’s list as one certain to be fired come season’s end may just get a reprieve.

“Clay Helton has impressed his new bosses and the feeling inside USC is that they’re leaning toward bringing him back,” Feldman tweeted on Wednesday.

Cowherd then came out and confirmed that he was hearing similar rumors inside USC.

“Nice reporting Bruce,” he tweeted. “What I’m hearing too.”

Just one month ago, the idea of the Trojans keeping Helton was unfathomable. Names like Penn State’s James Franklin and Urban Meyer were thrown around as his likely successor.

That all changed when USC went out and hired Mike Bohn as the school’s new athletic director.

The feeling was that if the Trojans were serious about pursuing someone like Meyer, they would have hired an AD with ties to him.

Bohn has no such ties.

Since Bohn’s hiring USC has gone 3-0 and now sit second in the Pac-12 South, just behind a Utah squad they have already beaten that is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation.

Is Helton a lock to come back? Obviously not, anything can happen. But do is chances look much better today than they did 30 days ago?

Absolutely.
