Urban Meyer Offers Surprising Take On Oklahoma, Lincoln Riley

Urban Meyer offered a surprising take on Oklahoma and Lincoln Riley on Saturday.

Fresh off the Sooners’ dominant 34-27 victory over Texas, which was far more impressive than the final score would indicate, Meyer could not stop raving about Riley’s team.

In particular, Meyer loved what Oklahoma had done on defense.

“Coach Riley, they had to make a change, and they did,” Meyer said.

“And they made a drastic change, they brought in Alex Grinch, a guy I know very well.

“A high energy guy, he expects a premium placed on effort and that’s what you saw,” Meyer continued.

“They were relentless today. They are a legitimate national title contender now. They’re a top four team.

“And not because of offense — you knew they had an offense — but because of that defense.”

While many expected offense to be the name of the game on Saturday, the Sooners’ defense held the opposition to 83 yards of offense in the first half.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was sacked nine times – tying an Oklahoma school record.
