Urban Meyer Has Special Advice For Rutgers, Greg Schiano

Urban Meyer has special advice for Rutgers and Greg Schiano.

After eight years away from the Scarlet Knights, Schiano was re-hired this week. The move has been met with universal praise from Rutgers alums because of the success Schiano enjoyed at the school from 2001 to 2011.

In response to Schiano’s hiring, Meyer recently decided to impart some wisdom on the newly re-hired head coach.

“I think there’s only one person that can probably have a chance (at Rutgers),” he said.

“The first thing is try to get them over on the other side of the Big Ten. I don’t think that’s going to happen for him.

“If they can get in the Big Ten West, that gives him a shot. It’s just so difficult in the Big Ten East.”

Recruiting was damn near impossible for ex-Rutgers head coach Chris Ash, and Meyer thinks that Schiano is the right man to fix that. Under Schiano’s reign he was able to bring more talent to New Jersey than anyone prior.

“Greg knows all of those people, but he’s got to land a few of them,” Meyer said of Schiano.

“That’s the only shot they have. You can talk about everything else. He’s got to get some of the kids out of Bergen County and New Jersey to play for him.”

Will Schiano be able to replicate the success he had during his first stint at Rutgers? Time will tell.
