Anthony Pettis Explains Decision To Join PFL
Former lightweight champion Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis is one of the most memorable and exciting fighters to ever be a part of the UFC.
Despite that, he parted ways with the promotion this past week in favor of the Professional Fighter League (PFL).
On Monday, he offered some insight into why he made the decision.
“I’m looking to make a run at another world championship, and the PFL format will allow me to do that in 12 months and do it again the following year at 170 pounds,” Pettis said.
“The offer the PFL gave me was extremely fair and they presented it as a partnership. Ready for a new chapter and a fresh start. Gonna be a fun ride.”
Pettis is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Alex Morono in his last UFC bout.
PFL, for obvious reasons, is thrilled with the pick-up.
“From winning world titles to electrifying fans in viral moments, Anthony is a tremendous athlete who fights with flair and tenacity that will fit perfectly with the brand,” PFL CEO Peter Murray told ESPN.
“Not only is Anthony a transcendent athlete within the sport of MMA, but he is also an innovator in the cage who is known for his charismatic fighting style and determination to win. He is very excited to compete on a global stage in our one-of-a-kind season format on ESPN and we look forward to seeing him in action come 2021.”
How will Pettis ultimately fare in the PFL? Time will tell.
