Is Conor McGregor replacing Tony Ferguson against Khabib Nurmagomedov?
In a recent interview, McGregor suggested that he did not believe the main event at UFC 249 would come to fruition.
The former two-division champion noted that this was the fifth time Nurmagomedov and Ferguson had been booked to fight, and that each time an injury of some sort had derailed the bout.
As such, McGregor is going into his looming UFC 246 match-up with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone under the impression that he will make a quick turnaround for his next event.

“Likely something will happen there, so I’ll be ready to slide in for that belt,” said. “So I’ll just have a good solid camp at 170 with no weight cut, a good fight.
McGregor also made it a point to build up Cerrone heading into their fight.
“I know Donald’s a good fighter,” he said.
“[He has] great records. Most knockdowns, most head kicks, most fights, most rounds. He’s got a lot of UFC records under his belt.”
For McGregor, the Cerrone fight is just Part 1 of a long-term plan.
“So I’ll get a great camp, a great fight, and then it’ll take me into the year,” he said.
“I’m looking at this as a season. This was the beginning of the season. Donald was the first one that I agreed to have a bout with, and here we are.”
Speaking to the media, McGregor also made it a point to note that Nurmagomedov was scared to face him again.
“That man is trembling,” he said.
“He doesn’t want it. He doesn’t want it. You get it. He’s trying not to lose it again.
“I just smell s—t. That’s all it is. He’s afraid, and that’s it. Everyone wants it. The boss wants it – Dana wants it. We all want it. He can run, but he cannot hide. I look forward to it.”
Will we get to see McGregor fight Nurmagomedov again? Perhaps. But he will have to get through Cerrone first.
UFC 246 is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 18.
