Tom Brady Leaving Patriots For Chargers, Says Cam Newton

Tom Brady is leaving he Patriots for the Chargers, says Cam Newton.

Everyone has their own theory on what Brady will do. That includes a certain Carolina Panthers quarterback whose own future is a little uncertain right now.

Recently, former NFL star Shawne Merriman was caught by TMZ outside of a local establishment. The reporter asked Merriman a number of questions, and somehow conversation turned to where Brady will land come the start of next season.

Merriman admitted that Newton had told him at the Super Bowl that he believes Brady will go to the Los Angeles Chargers.

“He thinks that Tom is going to come to the Chargers,” he said.

This past week, Los Angeles officially parted ways with their quarterback of 16 years, Philip Rivers.

That obviously opens the door for a new quarterback so slip into the equation, be it Brady or someone else.

Merriman, for what it is worth, does not think Brady would be a good fit for the Chargers.

“Tom’s a great quarterback, he’s just not a great quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers,” he said.

“I think if you’re going to move from a different direction from Phillip, you go in and get somebody that could do a little bit more — a little more athletic.”

Interestingly enough, Newton has been mentioned as someone the Chargers may want to target this offseason.

That is something Merriman also brought up.

“I just brought up one name, I think Cam Newton is a — could be a really good choice,” he said.

“Even for the short term. And, you can still go draft.”

Newton still has one more year left on his deal with Carolina, but the organization has made it clear that he is not long for the Panthers.

Last month, Ian Rapoport reported that Panthers brass wants Newton heal up right now. Then, when he does that, they plan to ship him off and start anew at quarterback.

Regardless of who the Chargers ultimately choose to make their next starting quarterback, it is clear that a rebuild is now officially upon them. One way or another the team will need two quarterbacks now: one for the future and one to serve as a bridge between now and when the future quarterback is ready to go.

It should be an interesting few year in Los Angeles football, that much is for sure.
