Tennessee Titans Release Big Names

The Tennessee Titans released some big names this week. Lost in the coronavirus hype were a couple of interesting roster moves.

On Thursday, the Titans announced that two veteran players were being released from the team.

Outside linebacker Cameron Wake and running back Dion Lewis were both given their walking papers just six days removed from the start of free agency on March 18.

Although many sports leagues have pushed back season openings and the beginnings of playoffs to this point, the NFL has not yet announced any changes as of yet to free agency.

This past year, Wake participated in nine outings for Tennessee before finishing off 2019-20 on injured reserve. When it was all said and done, he recorded five tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Lewis recorded 373 yards of total offense in 2019 on the heels of amassing nearly 1000 yards in total offense two years ago.

While Wake’s departure is not all that surprising, many anticipated that the Titans would find a role for Lewis in 2020. Apparently not.

With these changes, the Titans now have an additional $5.6 million in cap space heading into next year.

Whether or not the organization opts to use that space on free agent quarterback Tom Brady remains to be seen.
