Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry are arguably the most recognizable brothers in all of sports. The former has spoken at length about his complicated relationship with the latter, and the bond they clearly share has been the subject of much attention.

On Monday, news broke that Stephen and Seth’s parents, Sonya and Dell, are divorcing after more than 30 years of marriage. The act itself and reasoning behind it caught a lot of people off guard.

The same day, late Monday evening, Stephen took to social media to send his brother an emotional message.

Amid all the news of the day, the missive struck a particularly poignant note.

“Happy Born day to my guy @sdotcurry 🙌🏽 He’s one of them ones…amazing to see the way you do it for you and yours! Love you bro #31 #reggieyear,” he wrote.

Little is known at the moment about Sonya and Dell’s decision to separate.

“After exploring a trial separation over the past year and much thoughtful consideration, we have decided to end our marriage. As this comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus and desire is for our family’s continued happiness,” the pair told PEOPLE Magazine. “We are so thankful for all the many blessings and successes! We stay committed to and supportive of our children and grandchildren and will remain on connected paths. We ask that our privacy be respected and prayer for our family as we move forward.”

While seeing two parents split is never easy, both Stephen and Seth clearly have solid familial foundations that they can turn to in these trying times. Hopefully that softens the blow to whatever degree it possibly can.
