Redskins Hiring Urban Meyer To Be Next Coach?

Are the Redskins hiring Urban Meyer to be their next coach?

When Meyer parted ways with Ohio State last year, it was widely assumed he would return to coaching sooner rather than later.

USC and Notre Dame were both cited as possible landing spots for him, with the former being more likely than the latter.

As the year progressed, though, it became increasingly clear hat neither of those programs was looking to make a chance.

USC, in particular, had the opportunity to hire an athletic director with ties to Meyer. Instead they went with Mike Bohn. Surely enough, he opted to retain Clay Helton for one more season.

Similarly, Notre Dame does not appear particularly inclined to part ways with Brian Kelly.

As a result of no real interesting openings in college football, Meyer has reportedly turned his sights to the pro ranks.

The Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns are two organizations he has often been linked to, but his most likely destination is probably Washington.

According to Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report, one NFL insider believes Meyer to the Redskins has a very high probability of happening.

“This month, Meyer was seen in the owner’s box with Dan Snyder,” Freeman wrote.

“Meyer knew exactly what he was doing by being seen like this. He was making as much of a statement as Snyder was. Meyer was saying, ‘Yeah, I’m curious, so give my agent a ringy dingy.’

“It was an obvious ploy, and no one would be shocked if Snyder cleaned out the front office and gave Meyer not just the coaching job but also final say over personnel.”

Obviously hiring a guy with no professional head coaching experience is a big risk. That said, the Redskins have been bad for so long that it really feels like it is time for a Hail Mary of some sort.

  1. This would not work long term, Urban Meyer reportedly has health problems and has left 2 major programs before it hit the fan. The pro game isn’t about recruiting. His teams outmanned almost every team they played. It is a large part about organizational structure, identifying players and developing them. I’m a life long Redskins fan, and this organization is a mess from the owner down. I cant see them doing what’s needed as long as Dan Snyder is thete

  2. Mr. Meyer. Please don’t take the head coaching job with the Washington Deadskins. You will soon find out it is the wrong job to take. I know you want to coach Dwayne again but soon he is going to find out being the quarterback for the Deadskins is not that rewarding. To many players get the money and move on. The Deadskins are jinxed. My suggestion: The Dallas Cowboys.
