Eagles Issue Unfortunate Injury Update Ahead Of Giants Game

The Eagles issued an unfortunate injury update ahead of the Giants game.

Zach Ertz, the team’s Pro Bowl tight end, suffered a rib fracture in the first quarter of last week’s victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Philadelphia now controls its own destiny as far as the postseason goes.

A win locks up the NFC East for the Eagles.

A loss means Dallas has to get beaten by a hapless Washington Redskins squad that will be without Dwayne Haskins.

Given the sheer magnitude of this week’s outing, clearly Philadelphia wants to have all hands on deck.

Unfortunately, it remains unclear if Ertz will be ready to go.

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, Philly brass has not cleared Ertz to play this weekend.

“There’s a lot that goes into this more so than pain management,” Garafolo said.

“Ribs are meant to protect things that aren’t as solid as ribs. Things that are softer, things that are more vital. So, the Eagles are really going to take a hard look at this.”

If Ertz is not ready to go this weekend, Carson Wentz will be even more shorthanded than usual. DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffrey and Nelson Agholor are all dealing with injuries, too.

Ertz has been Wentz’s favorite target all season, though, so that absence would sting way more than of the others.

So far this season Ertz has recorded 88 catches for 916 yards and six scores. He leads the Eagles in most offensive categories.

The team will make a final decision on his playing status come week’s end.
